Intro —
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I walked into the cafe that day. There she was, the girl I had been secretly in love with for three years, sitting at the table with another guy. My heart sank as I watched them laugh and flirt, completely oblivious to my presence. But what happened next was even more shocking.
Story —
I had first seen Emily in my freshman year of college, and instantly I knew she was the one. Her bright smile, infectious laughter, and quirky sense of humor had captured my heart from day one. We had become friends, but I never had the courage to tell her how I truly felt. So, I watched from afar, silently loving her from a distance.
As I stood there in the cafe, watching Emily with this new guy, I felt a mix of emotions — jealousy, heartbreak, and a tinge of regret for not confessing my feelings sooner. I debated whether to approach them or just turn around and leave, but something inside me urged me to stay and see how this played out.
Minutes turned into hours as I sat at a nearby table, pretending to be engrossed in my book but secretly stealing glances at Emily and the guy. They seemed to be hitting it off, and I couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness at the thought of losing her forever.
Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, the guy got down on one knee and pulled out a small velvet box. My heart stopped as I watched Emily’s eyes widen in surprise and joy. The entire cafe seemed to hold its breath as he asked those four words that shattered my world — “Will you marry me?”
To my shock, Emily’s eyes landed on mine then, and in that moment, everything around me faded away. Her gaze held mine for a fraction of a second, and I saw something flicker in her eyes — a hint of recognition, of realization. And then, before my very eyes, she turned to the guy, smiled apologetically, and said, “I can’t do this. I’m sorry.”
The guy looked stunned, confused, but Emily got up, walked over to me, and took my hand. “I’ve been waiting for you to say something for so long,” she whispered. “I love you.”
And in that moment, the world seemed to right itself, and I knew that everything happens for a reason. Love truly knows no bounds, and sometimes, all it takes is a little bit of courage to change the course of our lives.
